Hourly to Yearly Salary Calculator (and Salary to Hourly)
Hourly → yearly
Yearly → hourly
Turn an hourly wage into a yearly salary, or a salary back into an hourly rate. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $20 an hour comes to $41,600 a year. A $50,000 salary on the same hours works out to about $24.04 an hour. The figures are gross pay, so tax, FICA and benefits are not taken off.
Quick answer: Multiply the hourly rate by your hours per week, then by your weeks per year. A 40-hour week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. So $22 an hour is $45,760 a year, and $20 an hour is $41,600. To turn a salary into an hourly rate, divide it by 2,080.

For pay dates, see the biweekly pay period calendars; for time-and-a-half, the overtime calculator; and to total the hours themselves, the time card calculator.
Worked example: a 37.5-hour job with unpaid weeks, and a job with overtime
Maria was offered $25 an hour at a dental office, for 37.5 hours a week. That pays $937.50 each week. If every week is paid, her year comes to $48,750, about $4,062 a month. But the office shuts for two unpaid weeks every August. Fifty paid weeks bring her down to $46,875, or $3,906.25 a month.
Her brother Dan loads trucks for $22 an hour and works 5 hours past his 40 each week. The regular hours earn him $45,760 a year. His overtime pays $33 an hour, so it adds $165 a week, or $8,580 by December. Before tax, Dan earns $54,340.
Maria: $48,750 with 52 paid weeks, or $46,875 with 50. Dan: $54,340 with his overtime.
The boxes start at a 40-hour week and 52 paid weeks, and you can change both. An unpaid day off takes away one fifth of a normal week's pay.
Salary to hourly: common salaries
These rates assume 2,080 paid hours a year, which is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. A job with a longer week has a lower true hourly rate.
| Yearly salary | Hourly at 40 h a week | Hourly at 45 h a week |
|---|---|---|
| $40,000 | $19.23 | $17.09 |
| $50,000 | $24.04 | $21.37 |
| $60,000 | $28.85 | $25.64 |
| $75,000 | $36.06 | $32.05 |
| $80,000 | $38.46 | $34.19 |
| $100,000 | $48.08 | $42.74 |
| $120,000 | $57.69 | $51.28 |
Yearly pay for part-time and longer weeks
The first table assumes 40 hours. This one keeps 52 paid weeks but changes the hours, from a 20-hour part-time week up to 45 hours.

Hourly to salary in Excel or Google Sheets
Put the hourly rate in B2, the hours per week in C2 and the weeks per year in D2. Overtime hours per week go in E2.
| What you want | Formula |
|---|---|
| Yearly salary from hourly | =B2*C2*D2 |
| Yearly pay with overtime at 1.5× | =(B2*C2+E2*B2*1.5)*D2 |
| Monthly average | =B2*C2*D2/12 |
| Biweekly paycheck | =B2*C2*D2/26 |
| Hourly rate from a salary in F2 | =F2/(C2*D2) |
Common mistakes
People often treat a month as four weeks, and it costs them on paper. A year has 52 weeks, which is about 4.33 a month. At $22 an hour, four weeks of pay is $3,520, yet the real monthly average is $3,813.33.
Unpaid time off is easy to forget. Maria's two unpaid weeks in August took her yearly pay from $48,750 down to $46,875, so lower the weeks per year when your holidays are unpaid.
Every figure here is gross pay. Income tax, Social Security, Medicare and benefit costs come out before the money reaches your bank. When you weigh two offers, look at paid leave, health cover and retirement matching too. A salary with those can beat a slightly higher hourly rate without them.
Hourly and yearly pay questions
How do I convert hourly to salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours per week and by the weeks per year. For $22 an hour at 40 hours and 52 weeks, that comes to $45,760. Divide by 12 for the monthly figure.
How do I work out salary to hourly?
Divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. A 40-hour week gives 2,080 hours, so $45,760 ÷ 2,080 = $22.00.
Can the calculator include overtime?
Yes, through the overtime box. Whatever you type there is paid at 1.5 times your rate in every paid week. For a single week, the overtime calculator gives more detail.
$20 an hour is how much a year?
At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks it is $41,600. Each week pays $800, and the monthly average is about $3,466.67 before tax.
What hourly rate is $50,000 a year?
Spread over 2,080 hours, $50,000 works out to about $24.04 an hour. Someone working fewer paid hours for the same salary earns more per hour.
And the hourly rate for $80,000 a year?
On a 40-hour week that is about $38.46 an hour. If the job really takes 45 hours a week, the rate falls to about $34.19.
How many working hours are in a year?
A full-time schedule of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks holds 2,080 hours. Unpaid weeks off or a shorter week bring that number down.
Is the result before or after tax?
Before. Take-home pay is lower once income tax, Social Security, Medicare and any benefit deductions come out.
How does a part-time hourly wage turn into a salary?
Use the hours you really work each week. A student on $18 an hour for 25 hours a week earns $23,400 over 52 weeks, or $1,950 a month.
