For hours worked in a day, take clock-in from clock-out and remove the unpaid lunch. The work hours calculator does that for one day or many. Clock punches with overtime and pay go into the time card calculator. The weekly timesheet keeps one week saved in your browser, and the biweekly timesheet covers a two-week pay period. To fill a sheet in by hand, print the printable timesheet.

Work hours questions

How do I calculate hours worked in a day?

Subtract the clock-in time from the clock-out time, then subtract unpaid breaks. 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours 15 minutes, or 8.25 decimal hours. The hours between times calculator handles overnight shifts.

What is the difference between a time card and a timesheet?

A time card records clock-in and clock-out punches; a timesheet is the record of hours worked each day, which payroll signs off. On this site the time card calculator splits punches into regular and overtime hours with pay, and the weekly timesheet keeps in and out times saved in your browser for one week.

Which calculator should I use for a biweekly pay period?

Use the biweekly timesheet calculator. It holds 14 days and works out overtime for each week on its own, because federal overtime cannot be averaged across two weeks.

When does overtime start?

Under federal law, after 40 hours in a workweek, at 1.5 times the regular rate (US Department of Labor). California and a few other states also count daily overtime.

Employers who round to the quarter hour may round 1 to 7 minutes down and 8 to 14 minutes up, as long as it evens out over time. See the time clock rounding guide.
