How Many Days Until Christmas 2026?

When is Christmas 2026?

Christmas 2026 is on Friday, December 25, 2026. It is held on December 25 every year, so only the weekday changes. Next year's is on Saturday, December 25, 2027.

Date rule: 5 U.S.C. 6103.

About Christmas

Christians mark the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. It's also a big family day for lots of people who don't go to church. Ulysses S. Grant signed the law that made it a US federal holiday in 1870, along with New Year's Day, the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving.

On the day almost everything shuts. Banks, schools, post offices and most big stores are closed, and there's no regular mail. Some pharmacies, gas stations, movie theaters and restaurants stay open. Kids open stockings and presents, often before breakfast. Many Catholics go to Midnight Mass the night before. In the UK, the King's Christmas message airs on TV at 3 p.m.

How this is calculated

Each midnight takes one off the number. Today is left out and the day itself is counted, so tomorrow shows as 1 day away. Clock changes for daylight saving make no difference.

In Excel or Google Sheets, type =DATE(2026,12,25)-TODAY() into a cell to get the same count; add 1 to include today.

Counted from Saturday, October 17, 2026 (US Eastern time). When you open the page, it counts again from the date on your device, so it matches your own day.
