Days Until Calculator (Day Counter)

The count starts from today and leaves today out, so a date tomorrow is 1 day away. Whole weeks and leftover days sit next to the total, and the number moves on by one each midnight. On December 1, for instance, Christmas Day is 24 days off. To count between two dates of your own, use the days between dates calculator. To find the date 30 or 90 days ahead, use days from today.
Quick answer: Take today's date away from the target date. That counts the midnights in between, which is why today is left out and tomorrow comes out as 1. Divide by 7 for weeks and leftover days, and add 1 only when a rule says both days count.
How the day counter works
Both dates are read as midnight, and the answer is the number of midnights in between. From September 28 to October 5 that is 7, one week exactly, and a target set to today shows 0. A date already gone, or the "Days since" button, turns it into a count of how long ago it was.
Worked example: March 3 to July 4, 2026
Imagine planning a Fourth of July trip on Tuesday, March 3. March still has 28 days to run after the 3rd. April, May and June add 91, and July 4 adds 4 more.
That makes 123 days. Day-of-year numbers agree. July 4 is day 185 and March 3 is day 62, and 185 minus 62 is 123. In weeks it is 17 with 4 days spare.
Result: 123 days, or 17 weeks and 4 days.
Day-of-year numbers for quick counting
For two dates in the same year, subtract their day-of-year numbers. To find a date's number, add the day of the month to the number for the 1st, then subtract 1. In a common year, July 4 is 182 + 4 − 1 = 185.

Days until a date in Excel or Google Sheets
Spreadsheets store dates as day numbers, so subtracting one from another gives days. Format the answer cell as a number, not a date.

Why two countdowns can disagree
Most gaps of one day come from whether today is counted. This page leaves it out, so a date tomorrow is 1 day away. Some sites count today as day 1, and a few count the target day too.
Time zones are the other cause. The number ticks over at midnight on your own device. So a friend in another country can see a count one higher or lower for part of the day.
Weekends are counted as normal days here. If you only want working days, the business days calculator leaves out weekends and public holidays.
Days until questions
Birthdays, trips and deadlines are what most people count down to, and these questions come up along the way.
How many days until my birthday?
Put your next birthday in as the target date. On January 1, a birthday on March 15 is 73 days away. In a leap year, when February has 29 days, it is 74. The age calculator shows the same countdown beside your exact age.
Does the count include today?
Today is left out, so a trip tomorrow shows as 1 day away and a trip happening today shows 0. A form that wants both days counted needs one added to the figure.
Can it count days since a date?
Switch to "Days since" and pick the day you quit smoking or started a new job. It shows how many days have gone by up to today.
How do I count days until a date without weekends?
Every calendar day counts on this page. Teachers counting school days, or anyone counting workdays, will want the business days calculator. It skips Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. A 30-day stretch usually shrinks to about 21 or 22 workdays there.
How many days are left in the year?
The days left in the year calculator answers that for today. In mid-October 2026 the figure sits in the seventies and drops by one each night until December 31.
Is this the same as days between two dates?
This counter always starts from today. The date difference calculator lets you choose both dates and whether the last day counts. That suits things like holiday bookings.
Can I count weeks or months instead?
Weeks appear next to the day total. A pregnancy app or a training plan usually thinks in weeks, and for that the weeks until calculator fits better. The months until calculator gives 2 months and 16 days from October 9 to Christmas.
