Age Calculator: How Old Am I?

Quick answer: Take the birth year away from this year. Knock off one if the birthday has not come round yet. For the full picture, count whole years to the last birthday, then whole months, then the days left over. A person born on August 15, 1990 was 35 years, 6 months and 23 days old on March 10, 2026.
How age is counted
Birthdays mark the change. Anyone born on February 29 only gets a real birthday in leap years. So in the years between, the calculator lets February 28 stand in. After the whole years come the full months since the last birthday, and then the days that are left.
The total in days is a straight count from the birth date to the "As of" date. It answers "how many days old am I". It is not the same as years times 365, because leap days creep in every four years.
Worked example: born August 15, 1990
Take someone born on August 15, 1990 who wants their age on March 10, 2026. Subtracting the years gives 36, but the 2026 birthday is still months away, so they are 35. Their last birthday was August 15, 2025.
From that birthday to February 15, 2026 is six whole months. March 15 has not arrived, so the months stop at six. February 15 to March 10 then adds 23 days, because February 2026 had only 28.
In total they have lived 12,991 days, which is 1,855 weeks and 6 days. The next birthday is 158 days away.
Result: 35 years, 6 months and 23 days old (12,991 days).

The count depends on how many February 29ths fall between the birth date and the birthday. That is why many ages have two possible values. Every fourth year adds one leap day.
How old will I be in 2030?
Take your birth year away from the year you have in mind. That is the age you reach on your birthday that year, and until the birthday you are one year younger. Anyone born in 1990 turns 40 in 2030, and someone born in 2000 turns 30. Enter your birth date above and set the "As of" date to see the exact age on any day.

Mistakes that make an age wrong
Subtracting the years alone is the most common slip. In early 2026, someone born in 1990 is still 35 until their birthday, even though 2026 minus 1990 is 36.
Multiplying by 365 is the next. Eighteen years of 365 days is 6,570. Yet an 18th birthday comes after 6,574 or 6,575 days, because four or five February 29ths fall in between.
February 29 birthdays follow different rules in different places for legal purposes. This calculator uses February 28 in common years. So check the rule that applies to a licence, a contract or a benefit claim.

How old am I?

How do I calculate my age by date of birth?
Work forward from the birthday. Count the whole years to the latest one, then the full months since, then the days left over. That is how a birth date of August 15, 1990 comes out at 35 years, 6 months and 23 days on March 10, 2026.
How many days old am I?
It is in the result card as total days. A teenager reaching 18 has been alive for 6,574 or 6,575 days. The extra day depends on whether five leap years slipped in rather than four.
How many weeks or months old am I?
Divide the days by 7 for weeks, so 12,991 days is 1,855 weeks and 6 days. Months are years times 12 plus the spare months, so 35 years and 6 months is 426.
Can I work out my age on a specific date?
Yes. A passport form might ask how old a child will be on the travel date. So set the "As of" box to that day and read the age off the card. The only limit is that it cannot be earlier than the birth date.
What happens to a February 29 birthday?
In years without a leap day, the calculator counts the birthday as February 28. The countdown points to that date. A person born on February 29, 2000 therefore turned 26 on February 28, 2026.
What day of the week was I born?
The card names the weekday as soon as a birth date goes in. August 15, 1990 was a Wednesday. The same birthday in 2026 landed on a Saturday, handy for planning a party.
