About the end of daylight saving time
Phones change on their own, but the oven and car clocks need setting back an hour. In most of the US the switch comes at 2:00 a.m. local time, when clocks return to 1:00 a.m. and standard time takes over, so you gain an hour of sleep and it gets dark about an hour earlier. Until 2007, when the Energy Policy Act of 2005 took effect, the change came on the last Sunday in October.
Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and most of Arizona stay on standard time all year, so nothing changes there, though the Navajo Nation in northeast Arizona does change. Eastern Canada falls back the same night. Alberta, Manitoba, most of British Columbia and the Northwest Territories stop changing their clocks from 2026, joining Saskatchewan and Yukon. The UK and the EU fall back exactly one week earlier, on the last Sunday in October.
