Election Day 2026 is on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. In the United States it is the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, so it always lands between November 2 and November 8. The 2027 date is Tuesday, November 2.

About Election Day

Every two years Americans vote for all 435 House seats and about a third of the Senate, and every fourth year the ballot also carries the race for president. Governors, mayors, judges and ballot measures often share the same ballot. Congress set the Tuesday after the first Monday in November for presidential elections in 1845, so it never lands on November 1. Tuesday suited a farming country: people could go to church on Sunday, travel to the county seat on Monday and vote before Wednesday's market day.

Virginia gives state workers the day off every year, and Delaware closes its state offices for the general election every other year. Lots of people now vote early or by mail in the weeks before.
