Watching the full moon
Four of this year's full moons fall on a Friday or Saturday night, when it is easiest to stay up late. Two happen so early in the morning, Eastern time, that it is still the evening before in California. The first of these evenings there is Thursday, August 27, 2026. Moon names in 2026
The names are the traditional ones listed by the Old Farmer's Almanac, one for each month. Two depend on the season instead. The Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the September equinox, which falls on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. In 2026 that is the full moon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, 4 days after the equinox. The Hunter's Moon follows on Monday, October 26, 2026.
May has two full moons this year. The second one, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, is a Blue Moon. It looks no different from any other full moon.
