Whether a month gets five Sundays depends on how it starts. A 30-day month needs a Sunday on the 1st or 2nd, a 31-day month on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd, and February only manages it in a leap year that begins the month on a Sunday.
How to count Sundays by hand
Find the first Sunday after today and the day before the holiday. Count the days from one to the other, divide by 7, ignore the remainder, then add 1.
Take Thanksgiving. The first Sunday is Oct 25 and the day before Thanksgiving is Nov 25, 31 days later. 31 ÷ 7 = 4 remainder 3, and 4 + 1 = 5, the number in the table.
With a paper calendar you can just run a finger down the Sunday column. Next year the answer can change, because a date moves one weekday later each year, or two after a February 29.
