How Many Days Until World Teachers' Day 2027?

When is World Teachers' Day 2027?

World Teachers' Day 2027 is on Tuesday, October 5, 2027. It is held on October 5 every year, so only the weekday changes. In 2028 it is on Thursday, October 5, 2028. Other names for it: International Teachers' Day.

Date rule: UNESCO (since 1994).

About World Teachers' Day

UNESCO started World Teachers' Day in 1994. It chose October 5 because on that date in 1966 a conference in Paris adopted the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. That paper covers pay, training and working hours. UNESCO now runs the day with the ILO, UNICEF and Education International, the global federation of teachers' unions.

It is not a public holiday, so schools are open as usual. Students often bring cards or flowers, and some schools hold an assembly or a breakfast for staff. Many countries also have their own teachers' day on another date. India keeps September 5, the birthday of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and China keeps September 10.

How many business days until World Teachers' Day?

Without weekends, World Teachers' Day is 252 weekdays away, Monday to Friday from tomorrow through Tuesday, October 5. Take out the 10 federal holidays on the way, Veterans Day through Labor Day, and the US count is 242 business days. Each country drops its own public holidays, so the UK gets 244, Canada 243 and Australia 246.

Regional holidays (US states, Scotland, Canadian provinces, Australian states) are not included. Count with your own holidays.

How this is calculated

Each midnight takes one off the number. Today is left out and the day itself is counted, so tomorrow shows as 1 day away. Clock changes for daylight saving make no difference.

In Excel or Google Sheets, type =DATE(2027,10,5)-TODAY() into a cell to get the same count; add 1 to include today.

Counted from Saturday, October 17, 2026 (US Eastern time). When you open the page, it counts again from the date on your device, so it matches your own day.
