About Flag Day
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the US flag. Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Flag Day in 1916, and in 1949 Harry Truman signed the law that made it a national observance.
It isn't a federal holiday, so banks, post offices, schools and offices are open. Pennsylvania has kept it as a state holiday since 1937. June 14 is also the Army's birthday, from 1775.
