AEDT

Friday, October 16, 2026 in Sydney

Right now Sydney keeps Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), eleven hours ahead of UTC. It stays that way until 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, when the clocks fall back to Australian Eastern Standard Time.

AEST or AEDT?

In winter Sydney runs on AEST, UTC+10. On the first Sunday in October the clocks spring forward to AEDT, and on the first Sunday in April they fall back again.

DateChangeNew offset
Sunday, April 4, 2027Clocks go back an hour (AEST)UTC+10
Sunday, October 3, 2027Clocks go forward an hour (AEDT)UTC+11

Invitations often say AEST even in summer. Between October 4 and April 4, 2026/27, the right label is AEDT.

Where Australian Eastern Time is used

New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania use AEST (UTC+10) in winter and AEDT (UTC+11) in summer. Queensland stays on AEST all year.

Good to know

Sydney sees the New Year earlier than almost any other big city: midnight on January 1 there is 8 AM on December 31 in New York.

The gap moves because these places change their clocks on different dates, or not at all.

The working day here never meets New York's and London's: a 9 AM start in New York is 12:00 AM in Sydney.
