Sunday, October 18, 2026 in Los Angeles

Right now Los Angeles keeps Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), seven hours behind UTC. It stays that way until 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, when the clocks fall back to Pacific Standard Time.

PST or PDT?

In winter Los Angeles runs on PST, UTC−8. On the second Sunday in March the clocks spring forward to PDT, and on the first Sunday in November they fall back again.

Sunday, November 1, 2026Clocks go back an hour (PST)UTC−8
Sunday, March 14, 2027Clocks go forward an hour (PDT)UTC−7

Invitations often say PST even in summer. Between March 8 and November 1, 2026, the right label is PDT.

Where Pacific Time is used

California and Washington use Pacific Time, as do most of Nevada and Oregon and the northern Idaho panhandle. In Canada, most of British Columbia uses it, and in Mexico, Baja California.

Good to know

At 9 AM in Los Angeles it is already noon in New York, so West Coast offices start their day halfway through the East Coast one. Many live US events are scheduled for the evening Eastern, which lands in the afternoon here.

Winter and summer gaps

Compared withIn JanuaryIn July
New York3 hours behind New York3 hours behind New York
London8 hours behind London8 hours behind London

January and July give the same gaps. For two or three weeks in March and about a week around the start of November they are an hour different, since the US moves its clocks on its own Sundays, not on Europe's.

Office hours that overlap

A 9-to-5 day in Los Angeles against office hours in each city, on today's clocks
CityShared hours (PDT)Length
New York9:00 AM – 2:00 PM PDT5 hours

Los Angeles shares five hours with New York. Calls to New York fit best first thing in the morning. The working day here never meets London's: a 9 AM start in London is 1:00 AM in Los Angeles.
