MDT

Sunday, October 18, 2026 in Denver

Right now Denver keeps Mountain Daylight Time (MDT), six hours behind UTC. It stays that way until 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, when the clocks fall back to Mountain Standard Time.

MST or MDT?

In winter Denver runs on MST, UTC−7. On the second Sunday in March the clocks spring forward to MDT, and on the first Sunday in November they fall back again.

DateChangeNew offset
Sunday, November 1, 2026Clocks go back an hour (MST)UTC−7
Sunday, March 14, 2027Clocks go forward an hour (MDT)UTC−6

Invitations often say MST even in summer. Between March 8 and November 1, 2026, the right label is MDT.

Where Mountain Time is used

Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming use Mountain Time. So do southern Idaho and the El Paso area of Texas. The western edges of Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota are on it too. In Canada, Alberta uses it. Arizona is also on Mountain Standard Time, but it does not change its clocks.

Good to know

Mountain Time is the smallest of the four mainland US zones by population. Denver is its largest city, and Phoenix shares its clock only in winter.

Winter and summer gaps

New York2 hours behind New York2 hours behind New York
London7 hours behind London7 hours behind London

January and July give the same gaps. For two or three weeks in March and about a week around the start of November they are an hour different, since the US moves its clocks on its own Sundays, not on Europe's.

Denver shares six hours with New York and one hour with London. Calls to New York and London fit best first thing in the morning.
