AKDT

Friday, October 16, 2026 in Anchorage

Right now Anchorage keeps Alaska Daylight Time (AKDT), eight hours behind UTC. It stays that way until 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, when the clocks fall back to Alaska Standard Time.

AKST or AKDT?

In winter Anchorage runs on AKST, UTC−9. On the second Sunday in March the clocks spring forward to AKDT, and on the first Sunday in November they fall back again.

DateChangeNew offset
Sunday, November 1, 2026Clocks go back an hour (AKST)UTC−9
Sunday, March 14, 2027Clocks go forward an hour (AKDT)UTC−8

Invitations often say AKST even in summer. Between March 8 and November 1, 2026, the right label is AKDT.

Where Alaska Time is used

Most of Alaska uses Alaska Time. The Aleutian Islands west of 169°30′ W use Hawaii-Aleutian Time instead, one hour behind.

Good to know

Most of Alaska moved onto one time zone in 1983. Before that the state spread across four zones, so Juneau and Nome were hours apart.

January and July give the same gaps. For two or three weeks in March and about a week around the start of November they are an hour different, because the US changes its clocks on other Sundays than the UK and Europe.
