5 Minute Timer

Ready: five minutes.

Press Start for 5 minutes, the break that follows each 25-minute block in the Pomodoro method.

What a 5 minute timer is good for

The Pomodoro break. After each 25-minute work block you get five minutes off: stand up, refill your water, look out of a window. Short enough that you still know where you were when you sit back down.

Five minutes also beats procrastination. Tell yourself you only have to work on the dreaded job until this rings; most days you keep going. An NBA overtime period is five minutes, and so is a typical steep for herbal tea.

Good to know

Steeping times vary a lot. Green tea wants 2 to 3 minutes, most herbal blends 5 or more, and some fruit teas 8, so check the box before you trust the beep.

Timer questions

How many seconds are in 5 minutes?

300. Each minute has 60 seconds, and 5 times 60 is 300, which is what the clock above counts down.
